After graduation, I enrolled as an engineering major at College of San Mateo.  I realized after my first year that my less than stellar math skills and lack of interest in the course work that a change was in order.  I switched to a business major and in 1963 transferred to San Jose State University.  I received my BS in Business and Industrial Management in 1965 and then applied and was accepted into Officer Candidate School with the Navy.  I served 3 ½ years of active duty, one tour to Vietnam and the balance with the Atlantic Fleet Headquarters Command in Norfolk, Virginia.  I separated from active duty in 1969 with the rank of Lieutenant.

I then joined San Diego Trust & Savings BankÕs management training program and rose through the ranks into various management positions.  Along the way, I received a graduate degree from the Pacific Coast School of Banking at the University of Washington.  After 33 years in the financial services industry with three major banks, all in San Diego County, I retired in 2001 from my position as Senior VP and regional manager for trusts, investments and private banking for City National BankÕs San Diego regional office.  Leaving the corporate world came easily and I never regretted retiring early.

I met Michele Cushway at San Jose State in 1963 and we have been happily married for the past 44 years.  We have 2 wonderful daughters and 4 grandchildren, ages 5 to 9.  When not on the golf course, gone fishing or working in the garden, Michele and I enjoy traveling and our time with the grandchildren who all live close by.
