SHARON DIETEL MUNKDALE
I didn't really graduate with the Cap Class of 1960
because I was one of those who had to leave to attend Mills High School for my
junior and senior years. Since I was dating Steve Munkdale--Capuchino Class of
1959--in my sophomore, junior and senior years of high school I still feel like
I'm a "Mustang Forever" however! I loved my Capuchino classmates and
Steve's classmates and we have kept close ties with many of them over the
years.
After graduation I attended the College of San
Mateo. In December of 1960 I married Steve Munkdale. I graduated from C.S.M.
and went on to attend San Francisco State. In 1963 Steve and I had a son so
that interrupted my college education for a short time. When I was able to
return to college I completed my degree in elementary education. Following my
graduation Steve and I had a daughter born in the fall of 1966. I was lucky
enough to be able to be a stay at home mom and loved that. We remained on the
Peninsula so our families were close by which was wonderful.
Steve and I have now been married 48 years and even
though we were married young we have remained best of friends and are still
very much in love. Our son and his wife have given us 3 dear grandchildren to
love. They are now 17, 15 and 12. It's amazing to us how fast those children
have grown up!
In 1978 our daughter died of aplastic anemia at the
age of 11. That was the hardest time of our married life. We faced life after
that with the outlook of making the most of every day. Working hard but also
taking time for our family, friends and time together. We have traveled quite a
bit and we love taking cruises.
I was a volunteer pink lady at Peninsula Hospital
for about 12 years.
My Dad passed away at age 89 but I'm lucky that my
Mom is still going strong at age 92. Still living in Millbrae, independent and
doing great.
Favorite movies---???---Gone With The Wind, Caddy
Shack, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, and most recently...Gran Torino!
I love reading and am in a book club. I enjoy taking
walks and exercising at Curves for Women.
I play a little golf but just for fun as I don't enjoy going to
practice. I love watching sports of all kinds, especially watching our
grandsons play baseball.
Retirement years are happy ones for us. We still
live on the Peninsula. We have a second home in La Quinta, CA and enjoy going
there for the warmer weather, golf and getting together with friends who live
there.
We have loved living in the Bay Area and feel we
grew up in the best of times! Don't you agree?
